About Ti Kong Buddhist Temple

The Ti Kong Buddhist Temple, also known as the Jade Emperor Pavilion, is a significant temple located on the slopes of Penang Hill. "Ti Kong" or "Thee Kong" in the local Hokkien dialect means "Jade Emperor," the supreme ruler of heaven in Taoist belief. This temple is the focal point for one of the most important festivals for the Hokkien community in Penang: the Jade Emperor's birthday celebration, held on the ninth day of the Chinese New Year. On this night, thousands of devotees flock to the temple to make elaborate offerings, creating a spectacular and vibrant scene. The temple itself offers a serene atmosphere and beautiful views, making it an important cultural and religious site.
