About Tanjung Tokong Beach

Tanjung Tokong Beach is the stretch of coast that belongs to the original, old Tanjung Tokong fishing village. This area represents one of the earliest Chinese settlements on the island and retains a unique character that is a blend of the old and the new. The beach is home to the historic Tua Pek Kong Temple (Temple of the God of Prosperity), which is a focal point for the local community and is said to predate the arrival of Captain Francis Light.

The beach itself has a more local and rustic feel compared to the tourist beaches further down the coast. From the shore, you can see the traditional fishing boats as well as the modern, ambitious land reclamation projects of Seri Tanjung Pinang in the distance. This juxtaposition makes Tanjung Tokong Beach an interesting place to observe the rapid development and the enduring traditions of Penang.
