About Tan Jetty
The Tan Jetty is one of the seven remaining historic clan jetties that form a unique waterfront settlement at Weld Quay in George Town. Like the other jetties, it consists of a community of wooden houses built on stilts over the water, connected by a long wooden pier. This jetty was traditionally inhabited by immigrant families belonging to the Tan clan. A walk along the Tan Jetty offers a fascinating and authentic insight into the traditional lifestyle of these waterfront communities, a way of life that has been preserved for over a century.
While it is less commercialized than the famous Chew Jetty, it provides a more peaceful and less crowded experience, allowing visitors to better appreciate the rustic charm and the living heritage of this iconic part of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.
