About Street Art - I Want Bao
The "I Want Bao" mural is a charming and interactive piece of street art located on Gat Lebuh Armenian in George Town. Created as part of a project by the local bakery, Ming Xiang Tai, the mural depicts two young children, a brother and a sister, on tiptoes and reaching up eagerly towards two baskets of "bao" or steamed buns. The clever part of the mural is that the baskets are real bamboo steamer baskets that are physically attached to the wall, adding a three-dimensional element.
This artwork has become a very popular photo spot, with visitors often posing as if they are either serving the buns or trying to get one themselves. It's a delightful and whimsical piece that celebrates one of the simple joys of local food culture and adds to the playful, interactive nature of George Town's street art scene.
