About Penang Kebun Bunga
Penang Kebun Bunga is the Malay name for the Penang Botanic Gardens, one of the oldest and most beautiful public gardens in Malaysia. Established in 1884 by the British, the gardens are nestled in a valley at the foot of Penang Hill, creating a lush, green oasis that serves as a popular "green lung" for the city of George Town. The gardens are a center for conservation, research, and education, featuring a vast collection of native and exotic plant species.
It is a beloved recreational spot for locals, who flock here especially in the mornings and evenings for jogging, walking, and practicing tai chi. The gardens are also famous for their resident population of long-tailed macaques and dusky leaf monkeys. Several well-known hiking trails to Penang Hill start from within the gardens, making it a gateway for jungle trekking and nature exploration.
