Penang Hill Trail

The Penang Hill Trail, commonly referring to the Heritage Trail, is the most direct pedestrian route to the summit of Bukit Bendera. The trail follows the path of the iconic funicular railway, starting from the Lower Station in Air Itam and ascending to an elevation of over 700 meters.

The route consists of approximately 1,440 uneven concrete steps on its lower half, which is considered a strenuous physical challenge for most hikers. Along the way, there are multiple rest stops and viewpoints that offer scenic glimpses of the funicular trains passing by and the sprawling George Town landscape below.
