About Peanut Island
Peanut Island is the colloquial, English name for Pulau Tikus, a small, rocky island located just off the coast of Tanjung Bungah. The name "Pulau Tikus" actually means "Rat Island." It is a tiny, uninhabited island with a lighthouse that is still operational. The island is considered sacred by some, and it is also associated with a local legend involving a sea deity. During very low tides, it is sometimes possible to walk to the island from the mainland. It is a prominent and picturesque feature of the seascape along the northern coast of Penang.
