About Pantai Kerachut
Pantai Kerachut is one of the most famous and ecologically significant beaches within the Penang National Park. It is uniquely known for its meromictic lake—a rare body of water where layers of fresh and sea water coexist without mixing. The beach is also a critical nesting site for Green and Olive Ridley sea turtles, and it houses a permanent turtle hatchery and conservation center managed by the Department of Fisheries.
The beach is accessible via a challenging 1.5 to 2-hour hike through the rainforest or by a short boat ride from Teluk Bahang. Its white sandy shores and turquoise waters are set against a backdrop of ancient tropical forest, offering a pristine wilderness experience. Because it is a protected area, no commercial development is permitted, ensuring the beach remains a sanctuary for wildlife and a highlight for eco-tourists.
