About Logan Memorial
The Logan Memorial is an important historical monument located in the civic heart of George Town, near the Penang High Court and St. George's Church. This ornate, Victorian-era memorial was erected in honor of James Richardson Logan, a highly respected 19th-century lawyer, editor, and scholar who lived in Penang. Logan was a champion of the rights of the local people and was known for his advocacy against the injustices of the colonial system.
The memorial was funded by public subscription from all the different communities of Penang, a testament to the high esteem in which he was held. It stands as a significant historical landmark, a tribute to a key figure in Penang's history and a symbol of the fight for justice and equality.
