About Lebuh Cintra (Cintra Street)
Lebuh Cintra, or Cintra Street, is a historic and culturally rich street located within the core heritage zone of George Town. The street was named after a Portuguese settlement in Melaka and became known as a hub for the Cantonese and Hakka Chinese communities. In its heyday, it was famous for its Cantonese restaurants, traditional teahouses, and goldsmiths. Today, Lebuh Cintra retains much of its historic charm, with beautifully preserved two-story shophouses lining both sides of the street.
While some of the traditional businesses remain, the street has also seen a new lease of life with the opening of boutique hotels, trendy cafes, and guesthouses. A walk down Lebuh Cintra is a journey through a significant part of the city's Chinese heritage, offering a blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy.
