About Jubilee Clock Tower (Menara Jam Jubli/ ஜூபிலி கடிகார கோபுரம்/ 银禧钟楼)
The Jubilee Clock Tower is one of George Town's most iconic and beloved historical landmarks. Located in a prominent roundabout at the junction of Lebuh Light and Lebuh Pantai, this elegant, 60-foot-tall clock tower was commissioned in 1897 by a wealthy local philanthropist, Cheah Chen Eok, to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The tower's distinctive, Moorish-influenced design, with its white facade and domed cupolas, makes it a stunning architectural gem.
Its multilingual name, displayed in English, Malay, Tamil, and Chinese, reflects the multicultural fabric of the city. The clock tower stands proudly in the heart of the old colonial administrative district, a beautiful and enduring symbol of George Town's rich and layered history.
