About Hua Guo Shan (Bukit Mertajam)
Hua Guo Shan, which translates to "Flower Fruit Mountain," is a large and impressive Taoist temple complex located at the foothills of Bukit Mertajam. The name is famously borrowed from the mythological home of Sun Wukong, the Monkey God, who is a central figure of worship at this temple. The temple is known for its vast grounds, which are filled with hundreds of statues and sculptures depicting a wide array of deities and characters from Chinese mythology and the classic story "Journey to the West."
A giant statue of the Monkey God is a prominent feature of the temple. The complex is a major religious site, attracting many devotees, and its vibrant and somewhat whimsical collection of statues also makes it a fascinating place for tourists to explore.
