About Claremont Station
Claremont Station is a historical landmark on Penang Hill, representing a piece of the hill's rich colonial past. It was originally one of the intermediate "request-stop" stations of the old Penang Hill funicular railway system. These stations were used by the residents who lived in the colonial-era bungalows that dotted the hillsides. While the modern, fast-track funicular no longer stops here, the station remains a point of interest, especially for those who choose to hike up or down the hill.
Located near the middle of the railway line, the station can be seen from the hiking trails that often run parallel to the tracks. It serves as a nostalgic reminder of a bygone era, when the journey up the hill was a more leisurely affair and the hill was an exclusive retreat for the colonial elite.
