About Cherok Tokun Nature Park (National forest)
Cherok Tokun Nature Park is a large and popular forest reserve located at the foot of Bukit Mertajam, the highest hill in the area. It serves as the primary "green lung" and recreational forest for the people of central Seberang Perai. The park is a haven for nature lovers and fitness enthusiasts, with a network of well-trodden hiking and jogging trails that wind through the lush tropical rainforest, leading up to the summit of the hill.
The park is rich in biodiversity and is also a site of historical interest, home to an ancient megalith with Pali inscriptions dating back to the 4th or 5th century, indicating an early Buddhist presence in the region. With its fresh air, shady trails, and natural beauty, Cherok Tokun is a cherished place for the local community to connect with nature and engage in healthy outdoor activities.
