About Bukit Relau
Bukit Relau, infamously known as "Botak Hill" (Bald Hill), is a prominent peak on Penang Island rising to an elevation of approximately 413 meters. It gained widespread attention in 2013 when its summit and eastern slopes were illegally cleared, leaving a massive barren patch visible from the Penang Bridge and other parts of the island.
The hill offers a challenging hiking experience with steep slopes ranging from 40 to 60 degrees in certain sections. Since the clearing incident, various mitigation and rehabilitation efforts have been undertaken to restore greenery to the site. The trail remains popular among local hikers for its physical challenge and the expansive views it provides of the island's skyline and the Penang Strait.
