Pai Thee Kong Celebration 2026 (槟城拜天公)

The 9th day of Chinese New Year, which is also the Jade Emperor’s Birthday, is a largely significant ritual event for the Chinese community in Penang. It is believed that the Jade Emperor protected their Hokkien ancestors from being massacred while they were hiding in a sugarcane plantation. The Celebration is held annually at the Chew Jetty on the night of the 8th day of Chinese New Year, with a countdown event that successfully empowers strong community participation.
